Postmodernism

After reading the two pieces on Postmodernism, many things stuck out to me. The topic itself is extremely interesting, it's a bunch of ideas thrown together in on big "melting pot". However one thing that was confusing to me was the idea that, "The Disneyland imaginary is neither true nor false: it is a deterrence machine set up in order to rejuvenate in reverse the fiction of the real." I do not understand this statement whatsoever. To me, Disney seems to be pretty imaginary, it has seemed that way since my childhood and still seems that way. I also was confused about why he included Los Angeles in the category of "no longer real".

Postmodernism Project

For my Postmodernism project I went off the quote, "The sad thing about artificial intelligence is that it lacks artifice and therefore intelligence" (Jean Baudrillard). On my project I put images of robots, to animals, to blurring the lines with cyborgs. The idea of the entire project was to try and represent the quote and send the message that artificial intelligence is becoming so realistic the line between the two is beginning to become indiscernible. The color scheme in this project was somewhat of a mixture of my own custom color scheme along with a reddish orange and blue complimentary color scheme. Also, black and white splattered paint is all across the painting. I chose this scheme because of the images that I chose. I was trying to represent the burring line between humans and Artificial intelligence. Escaping Flatland

Dimensions have always been a major aspect in artwork of all stages. Kids when they are young draw extremely flat planes and stick figures. However, as they progress they begin to escape this flatland. The article on this concept had many interesting concepts within it. When they talked about our language and how it " lacks immediate capacity to communicate a sense of dimensional complexity." Made me think of how language is normally not very complex and uses a great amount of basic slang. I also thought the way they used visuals in the article was very creative and interesting. Such as the McDonald's map and the stereo images. Overall, I think that this article made a bunch of valid points that actually opened my eyes once more about the world.
